Bought in Detroit is a user created image gallery of things bought in the city. The site started as a blank slate, with each new upload contributing to our understanding of what shopping in Detroit means.
The project came about in response to some interviews I conducted about shopping in Detroit. The consensus seemed to be that there were just some things you can't buy in Detroit. That got me thinking, is this really true or do we just not know where to look? What can you buy in Detroit?
Being only one person, any guide to shopping in the city I created would be nowhere near complete so I decided to make a website where everyone could contribute. Through sharing we can raise awareness of local businesses and may discover something new or unexpected.
This site is for us and created by us. I only hope that this site can be something fun and participatory that becomes a resource for discovery.
